JOANNE
SMITH
My latest work involves the moon as subject and metaphor. The Latin titles come from the names of the dark spots on the moon identified a couple hundred years ago by a French scientist who thought they were oceans or “mares”. There are 13 “Mares of the Moon” paintings. The process is the same as my other work, the home and family series; painting with acrylic and oil on hand stitched fabric over stretched paper.
